Sous le soleil pétrochimique
Plein les oreilles d’objets rythmiques,
On va, on va, exorciser,
On va, on va, boucler la loop.

Excerpt from Sourire Plastique, track 8

Paul Laurent, architect and musician, and Sylvie Ungauer, visual artist, met a few years ago in the Mixar collective, which organised artistic events in the urban space of Orléans (France). Their paths crossed again during Sylvie Ungauer’s « Prêt-à-porter  » and Je travaille encore à notre nouvelle tenue » performances, for which Paul Laurent created the music.

Now, with Sourire Plastique, they present for the first time a work conceived and experimented as a duo, a hybrid work at the crossroads of their practices. By pulling, tapping, stroking, hitting, blowing and chewing on (plastic) objects, Sylvie Ungauer and Paul Laurent build a choreography around an ‘instrument’ table that transforms, amplifies and diffuses sound. Following in the footsteps of Maurizio Kagel’s music theatre, they accompany these actions with their bodies, voices, breath and words, evoking our relationship as human beings with the bird community. Loops, repetition and imitation are the raw materials of this audiovisual performance. Over the course of ten sketches, they construct a space, a landscape in constant metamorphosis and growing chaos.
